We had a heafty number of people come out evangelising on Mill Avenue this past Friday night; including Jonathan, Walter, Micheal, Eddie, David, Scotty, Vocab, Marcus, Phil, and me(Emily):) [Team is seeking much needed evangie women, to witness to all the ladies out there! Join us:)] The night was truly filled with blessing after blessing. We received many contacts of people interested in attending church or bible study in the near future. There was a lot of grace while the “preachers,” were on the mic, as far as not getting interrupted and no one too upset by the message.
Walter began the night by preaching on the mic. As always, he used a clever analogy. He spoke about the eyes of Jesus being undefiled. Jesus does not grade on a curve! He demands perfection to enter the Kingdom of God. Being that he is the only perfect one, we must turn to him and not to ourselves! At this time Micheal Grecco met an x- Associate Pastor who had been yearning for some time, to get his life back on track. Tonight would be his night! After speaking with Micheal for a good hour, he seemed to commit his life fresh to the Lord!
He literally stayed with us the entire night(about 5 hours) speaking with Micheal, encouraging each of us as we went up to speak on the mic, and doing a little crowd control when times got rowdy. Jonathan later had a chance to pray with him. Jonathan received a few words for him regarding his life and calling as a “Shepard,” of others. Jonathan previously had no idea that he was a Pastor. It was undoubtedly God working, so this brought the man to tears. We exchanged contact with the man and plan on seeing him again soon:)
David shared a bit of 1 Peter with the crowd and a description in his own words regarding the uniqueness of Jesus and our hope through him as our resurrected Savior. What he spoke was intense and powerful, yet it was he said with such ease and gentleness, that it sparked peoples interests. He spoke with about 7 individuals after finishing on the mic. The people he spoke to had a Catholic background but were still shaky on exactly what the message of the gospel was. David was able to share it with them and answer several questions for the group.
As people began congregating Jonathan went on the mic, briefly discussing the law and our imperfections, as well as God’s grace and forgiveness. A teenage boy out with his parents took an interest in what Jonathan was saying and stopped to listen. His Mom however began pushing him along. I suppose she thought we were some crazy religious zealots or a cult, Haha. He did however ask her if he could stay for a few moments and she allowed it. As Jonathan wrapped up his message on the mic the boy approached Jonathan asking him several questions that were on his heart. ” Why don’t all paths and religions lead to Heaven? What exactly is the message of the gospel and how is it different then other religions?” Jonathan was able to answer his questions and exchange contact, to hopefully meet up in the future:) After Jonathan was finished speaking with the boy, a middle aged gentleman approached Jonathan. The man had been listening and said he felt “touched,” by the things Jonathan was saying. ” I may not believe the whole message but I like his style and honesty!”He remarked excitedly regarding Jonathan. The two proceeded to talk for about an hour. The man later approached me giving many compliments to Jonathan. He said Jonathan was exactly the type of person he needed to be around. He described their conversation as “ordained,” and admitted he needed a refresher on the topics Jonathan discussed with him. He was very thankful and asked for Jonathan’s contact to come to bible study in the future.
Scotty B also spent some time on the mic. He focused a lot on Jesus as the fountain of living water. He spoke about all the things we as humans run to and cling to instead of Christ. If done without Christ all those things will simply leave us feeling empty and dissatisfied. He way even able tp get peoples attention by preaching on the Jersey Shore! He used both humor and truth to make some solid points. It was really going quite well and he began getting a positive crowd response, until a brigade of English people showed up. Haha, seriously! A group of girls and one boy from England jumped up next to Scotty as he was on the mic shouting ” People do not raise from the dead that’s ridiculous!”Scotty tried to reason with two of the girls who were shouting. One of them he seemed to get through to rather quickly. She agreed over the mic to keep an open mind about the things Scotty had said and also agreed to read both John and Psalms.
The other girl however was not having it. I pulled her aside to speak with her in a more rational way. “This topic makes me very, very, very angry!” She shouted about an inch away from my face. I asked her if I could give her a hug…that didn’t go over to well, Haha. I instead began speaking to her, regarding the proof of the gospel. Finally, she had enough and walked away. However, she did come back and finally spilled it. “Okay fine, you want to know why I KNOW God doesn’t exist? Because there is evil and injustice in this world. So tell me how can you call your God loving and just?” I spoke to her a bit about God’s perfect justice. Injustices and suffering exists in the world as a result of sin.The person who suffers is not necessarily at fault one bit, they could have simply been sinned against. I showed her Revelation 4: 21with my bible. This passage discussed how in Heaven pain will not exist. Every tear will be wiped away. Every sin will have been dealt with. Justice will have already been served. She expressed that she didn’t want to wait for justice. She wanted it now. She ran off into the bar but luckily this stirred up the attention of many other people. From there Scotty and I were able to speak to several people regarding the topic of injustice, suffering, etc.,
All in all, an awesome night:)
