Mill appeared to be dead as we hit the streets early Friday evening. However, as the night
grew later we learned the cold, wet streets wouldn’t keep the local crowds from the club/bar/public intoxication scene. The night got off to a great start… Walter and Jonathan didn’t waste any time before getting on the mic. They both began by speaking about some fundamentals regarding Jesus, the gospel, justice, and repentance. Right away three men walked up; one interested the other two very much NOT interested, haha. “Come on dude lets GO NOWWWWW.” One of the uninterested guys said to his friend. “It’s okay, I am actually listening to this guy(Jonathan), why don’t you guys just go ahead with out me.” The man answered. He later approached Jonathan, thanked him for “the message”, and inquired about going to church with him or Walti
The guys were also able to speak with a man who described himself as lost. Jonathan seemed to receive a word for the man. Jonathan told the man that he believed he had a calling on his life, that he was running from. The man laughed as he expressed that he had been hearing that so often lately, and was beginning to believe it as true himself. The guys shared the gospel with him and prayed with him:) [Image:Above, right.]
Early in the evening I spoke with two brothers who really had no idea what they believed. They had a few basic misconceptions regarding the life of Jesus that was easy to clear up for them. Once I did that they looked at each other as if all their past confusions finally made sense. ” So, he is not only real, but he’s GOD. Jesus is GOD! Woah, I am just, amazed I don’t know what to say right now.” One of the brothers said excitedly. They stuck around and listened to Walter preach. As people walked by with their quick drive by insults, the two brothers enticed the people to stay. “Come on guys, stay and listen for a second, he’s not that bad…he’s just trying to talk about Jesus!” The one guy yelled as people passed. They stayed for about an hour listening to the preachers, provoking random people to stay and clapping for each of us when we finished preaching! Haha how encouraging!
Walter spoke with a homeless man and was able to share the gospel with him and buy him dinner. The man decided to set up shop with us for the evening and even asked us if he could preach the gospel. We gave him a chance to say what he wanted on the mic, but it most certainly wasn’t the gospel. He spoke about the love of Jesus(good start)… and the fact that he was Jesus. [LoL!] We let him carry on for a bit and then eventually cut him off from the mic. Walter tried to speak with him about his clear misconceptions but this made the man quite upset. He therefore moved his stuff to the street corner and for the next hour approached and warned every person who passed by not to speak to us or go near us! However, this kind of worked to our advantage as people were enticed as to why he he was so opposed to us. So, people began to gather and congregate with friends; listening to those who were preaching and engaging with the others in the crowd.
I believe it was Marcus or Phil who was sharing something awesome when a man who was
beyond drunk walked up, asking if he could ask a question on the mic. Essentially he began attempting to repeat what he had heard of the gospel via mic… however he could not quite form full sentences. He was so inebriated that when he heard his own voice through the mic he began looking around confused, stumbling and falling several times. Finally he ran away with the mic into the club. Luckily Marcus and David ran after the man retrieving the mic. Shortly after this Walter got back on the mic and two skinny, punk rockish looking guys walked up. They stood their with their heads down and arms folded. Suddenly, they busted out into a choreographed dance routine! Haha! Random!
We ended our night by doing a little “preach and drive.” Which, I personally think we should incorporate into all our evangie outings. We drove around the back streets surrounding Mill, preaching the gospel via the sound system, from the car to random pedestrians. One man was taken by such surprise that he feel to the ground laughing. ” NO WAY!!!!! This is awesommmmmmmeee!” He said. Perhaps it was just the alcohol talking but nonetheless it left an impression on him and he heard the gospel!
