Just admit it, we’ve all done it. Your driving (okay fine, speeding)… down the freeway when that warning sign pops up, that totally cramps your hot-rod driving style;”Photo enforcement zone ahead.” Aka, if you’d like a ticket, proceed driving 85mph. If you would not like a ticket, kindly slow down, fool! And then it happens FLASHHHHHHHHH! You’re temporarily blinded, by a photo radar flash, which causes you to almost ram into the grandpa, doing 55 in front of you. “UGH ARE YOU KIDDING ME I JUST GOT FLASHED??!!”
At least that was my reaction when it happened to me. But why on Earth was I surprised? There were CLEAR as day warnings. After my initial reaction , I was immediately humbled.Ofcourse you were flashed, and now YOU WILL pay a hefty fine…just as the sign warned. What humbled me the most was it reminded me so much of God and his beautifully perfect law. We can choose to ignore the TRUTH about God. However, ignoring God, does make him any less real. In Acts, God tells us that he has continually looked over our ignorance. However, he goes on to say that because of his justice he commands every one to repent( TURN from our wickedness and turn to Him), because he Will judge each of us in his righteousness… Okay, you can stop holding your breath now, the good news is coming!
I was able to share this analogy with a gal I met on Mill Avenue this past weekend. She essentially believed Jesus was who he said he was(GOD!) However, she thought she could continue living any way she pleased, in complete disobedience to Jesus. She believed she would go to Heaven upon her death, simply because Jesus died and because her Mother followed Him. I shared the first verse that popped into my head, which in layman’s terms the verse says there are no-cosigners in Heaven. All will take an account for themselves.
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body whether good of evil.”-2 Corinthians 5:10
I gave her a huge hug and assured her I was NO better then her. I assured her that I too, had been ignorant to God’s law, to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had metaphorically gotten flashed in many photo enforcement zones in my day, lol. I reminded her of the loving and amazing grace of Jesus Christ.I shared with her the beautiful news of the gospel.Jesus humbled himself to his own creation, living an absolutely perfect life and willing paid the death penalty on behalf of the sins of the world. He willingly suffered an excruciating death on a cross, and then three days later, just as he claimed, he rose again. Doing this proved his deity. It proved he was who he said he was, proved we could trust him. As I shared this with her eyes began to widen. I believe she began to see just how good God is. She stated she wanted to stop ignoring God and and start following him. Wow, that is beautiful.
Conclusion? Don’t get flashed, follow Jesus. He is so GOOD!
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”- 2 Peter 3:9
