Walter and Marcus pray for previously angry man

Walter and Marcus pray for previously angry man

After First Fridays last week  Walter was really feeling the itch to get out and preach some good news:) He was not with us at First Fridays as he was on crutches, still recovering from his surgery. So we  quickly dashed home from First Fridays, picked up Walty and met up with the faithful Marcus and Phil at the Bars. Eager to preach, Walter wasted no time. He popped on his new, sweet headset and began talking about who Jesus was and why he died. Right off the bat a man got out of the bar line and began yelling, practically right in Walter’s face. He continually asked Walter” What have you done for your disability, for God?” No one really knew what that meant, which frustrated the man even more. ” I’m sorry man, I’m not sure what doing something for my disability means, and I am actually not disabled…I just had surgery.” The man shouted the same question, over and over again, increasing the volume of his voice each time. Finally, he stormed off but  came back about 5mins later apologizing to Walter. Walter of course told him it was perfectly alright, and asked if he could pray with him. The man agreed; and Marcus, Walter and Phil all prayed with him! Later the man befriended Walter:) Strange, and quick transition, but awesome nevertheless!

Beer thrown on our megaphone!

Walter preaching to a few individuals.

Walter preaching to a few individuals, on Mill Ave.

While most of the evangelism team was slaking off, either away or taking a break for the Holiday Season, Walter continued to bring  his A game to preaching! Walter began the night of December 12th by preaching on 2 Cor 5:20-22. He spoke about how Christ became sin to cleanse us of our sin. Not long into his preaching a drunk gentleman decided he found that message to be downright offensive and SPIT on Walter! Confused as to what was so offensive Walter tried to continue, as a couple walked over to Walter enraged. The lady of the duo began yelling at Walter, becoming increasingly more and more angry. Unable to reason with the girl Walter asked the gentleman of the couple, why she was so angry. Unfortunately that immediately provoked the gentleman into defensive mode. ” I didn’t do anything wrong! Why are you looking at me? I have no part in this!” The man yelled.  Walter expressed to the man that while he didn’t know him or what made him mad, he simply wanted him to know Jesus.

It  seemed Walter was saying and doing everything right, yet apparently it just wasn’t his night!  The man he was dialoging with quickly grabbed the mic from him and throw it on the ground as hard as he could. Trying not to draw attention as there was a crowd, Walter picked up the mic and turned the other cheek, retaining his UFC skills. The man however grabbed the mic again tossing it to the ground as another man kicked the mic. As the evening  continued to get rowdy, Marcus and Justin showed up in the nick of time. Walter was happy because they represented protection if things continued in the way it was going. The three guys stayed a bit longer conversing with individuals in the crowd.  Finally, the night wrapped up as a drunk man  in the crowd through beer on the megaphone! Although Walter, Marcus and Justin may have had a bit of a rough night I definitely believe their actions and Christ-likeness in the midst of a bit of persecution resounded well with the  bi-standers. Thanks for being great witnesses guys!

Man confesses to murder while witnessing…what now?

Posted on by Urban Evangie Posted in Mill Ave, One-2-One, open air, Random Unexpected Experience | 11 Comments
This past Friday night we went to Mill Avenue with our new King of Pop Micheal Jackson tracks. Now we really never know what to expect,  when we go witnessing, especially to Mill Avenue. Usually something outrageous happens as you could probably tell by our blog… but I don’t think any of of foresaw what this night had in store for us.
Man tries to identify celebrities on one of our signs.
David and Walter didn’t waste any time and quickly got into some conversations about Jesus. Christy, Jason and myself were handing out the MJ tracks, which were a huge hit. In the meantime Jonathan was up on the mic sharing the gospel as a thugish looking gentleman came up to the question mic. Troubled, he began asking questions about what the bible says about guilt. Jonathan answered with a Piper quote saying,” guilt is to the soul what pain is to the body.” Essentially, leading to the main point that sin defiles us and causes us to feel shame. However, God desires to cleanse us from our sin( 1 John 1:9). Jonathan, eventually got off the mic and began talking to the guy one to one on the side. The overall vibe of the thug was “I’m a bad man and want to get my life back together.” Jonathan continued to share the gospel, talk about forgiveness and then the two prayed together.
