People laugh at the idea of Jesus coming back…but we forget that one day it rained and no one had ever seen it before. It is easy to over look and suppress truths based on our self made perceptions and desires.
As we arrived on Mill we tried to set up the megaphone, signs, etc., asap as we had gotten there later
then usual. Walter quickly jumped on the mic as he multitasked; setting up his music stand, bible, light for bible etc., The next two or three minuets would set the tone for the rest of the night… Walter began a lighthearted introduction to the night; discussing why we were there. He hadn’t been on the mic for but a minuet when an incredibly intoxicated man shouted several obscenities and ran toward Walter; knocking over his music stand with all the materials on it. Confused Walter invited the man back as he sprinted away. Hey man “I’m not sure what got you so upset, but I just want you to know Jesus.” Well, the man took Walter’s invite to the next level. This time he charged at Walter twice as fast, trying to knock him over. However, he stumbled and missed. He was still able to grab Walter’s music stand and launched it like a javelin into ongoing traffic! The stand light and bible did flips in the air, landing between cars in the street. Luckily no people or cars were harmed in the process!! The music stand was completely busted though!
Jonathan was next to jump on the mic as a crowd and various hecklers had already been at work. As Jonathan put the mic to his mouth a man ran up the the megaphone and shut it off. He then ran over to all his friends, as they began highfiving at his sheer brilliance.LoL! Jonathan gave a gospel presentation and moved into the good person test. The good person test provoked various angry drunk people to examine Jonathan’s heart. They repeatedly asked Jonathan if he had ever told a lie or lusted. He admitted of course, but they guys didn’t seem to hear him. ” Your not perfect! You have sinned.” One man shouted several times. Jonathan continued to reassure him that yes, he had sinned and no he was not perfect. He directed his attention towards Jesus expressing that he needed Jesus just as much as the man did. By this time several incredible intoxicated girls walked up(literally every single person out there was drunk). Before Jonathan passed the mic on to Scotty one of the girsl decided to announce to the crowds and all of Mill Ave ” I’m wasted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” She then proceeded to perform a few pirouettes and high kicks. Embarrassed, her friends eventually dragged her away.
By this time David and Ephrem were engaging in some pretty intense crowd control. They
both engaged with the crowd and attempted to calm the angry drunkards. Scotty jumped on the mic to an already shouting crowd. He began speaking out of 2 Peter, regarding being ready for judgment day. Scotty began breaking down the verse but struggled with a desire to be relevant. Finally he was blasted with encouragement as he realized he was focusing to much on relevancy and would simply let God’s word do the work. Scotty focused on getting to God one way and one way only…through Jesus. He challenged people to search the scriptures to see if Jesus was in fact who he says he was. He challenged them to cry out to God to reveal Himself. “Please guys…don’t look back on your life and realize that you wasted it on jagermeister! “At this time a man walked up to Scotty expressing that he was completely confident that he was “all good, for judgment day.” When Scotty asked him why that was, he pulled up his shirt showing a cross tattoo. “See, what do you think of that! Are you trying to say this tattoo doesn’t mean anything and my heart isn’t for God?” The guy yelled out. Scotty responded by asking if he wanted a hug. The guy said yes and immediately the flow changed. Shortly after, the man began tearing up and expressed his background of pain through abuse and the death of his best friend.
As Walter jumped back on the mic a man lingered by the corner looking rather suspicious. At full force he ran at Walter in an attempt to either knock the megaphone and stand onto Walter or steal it(his precise motive was unclear). However, upon his contact with the megaphone stand he realized it was much heavier then he had anticipated. So, he quickly made a run for his getaway car(no joke) that was parked a few yards ahead. Walter was persevering but apparently the crowd was unhappy with his constant persecution. The man Ephrem was witnessing to quickly jumped up shouting “Ohhh *HECK NO! That Aint right!” He chased after the man as five other completely random guys joined him, for backup. The men that chased the offender pulled and ripped his shirt just as he slammed the door of the car, making a getaway. Thank you random Mill avenue folks for protecting out Walti!
Soon after that Marcus and Phil showed up! This was certainly in the nick of time because things were getting increasingly more and more rowdy. We later found we definitely needed them for protection… and then some. Phil closed out the night on the mic by bringing and awesome word regarding the good news of grace and the bad news of sin. We all gathered for a quick prayer, as we decided it probably wasn’t wise for us to stay out much later. Regardless, Walter jumped back on the mic to say what we thought was “goodnight Mill!”
However, our night was far from over. Stay tuned for PART 2 of the night entitled, “Disorderly Conduct.”
